Outing to The Cleveland Aquarium
September 30, 2022
It's so important to us at Avon Place, especially being a long-term care facility, to do fun activities and outings for our residents to enhance their quality of life, get them out of their rooms for some adventure, and provide them with something that brings them joy.
This month, we took our residents to downtown Cleveland for a trip to the Cleveland Aquarium. We traveled all the way to the historic FirstEnergy Powerhouse building located on the west bank of the Cuyahoga River in the city’s flats. As we entered the Aquarium, our residents' faces lit up with excitement and curiosity. We began exploring the exhibits learning all about the different species, their behaviors, living situations and so much more.

Did you know that the Cleveland aquarium features over 5,000 creatures? Most of our residents enjoyed the sharks in the 230,000-gallon shark exhibit. We were also excited to see an octopus in the cold water arch, greet the jellyfish and even touch the stingrays in the shallow pool. Our residents couldn't forget to make a little pit stop at the gift shop after our tour to purchase some souvenirs. One of our residents, Mary, purchased a seahorse to bring back with her. She has always loved those creatures and even has a tattoo of one on her arm. We finished our tour by sitting on the patio outside the aquarium and appreciating the beautiful skyline of downtown Cleveland. What a day to be downtown!
