Skilled Nursing Facility Achieves 100% Occupancy
February 24, 2023
Avon Place is thrilled to announce that the facility has reached 100 percent occupancy! We believe this milestone achievement is because of doing away with agency staffing, increasing employee appreciation, focusing heavily on clinical outcomes, decreasing rehospitalizations and creating private rooms for all long-term care residents.
This accomplishment would not be possible without our dedicated team of caregivers committed to enriching the lives of the residents we serve. It is a true testament to the compassionate care that is provided to our residents each and every day. This includes our Admissions Director, Shye Smith, who has been with us for three years and has always had the goal of reaching 100 percent occupancy. Although, the pandemic presented its own challenges, pushing us further back from our goal. The facility experienced many obstacles, including resident protocol and new hires.
Avon Place Team celebrating 100% occupancy!
We are thankful to have experienced STNAs who have been at the facility for 40-plus years to help mentor our new hires to what a nursing home setting is like pre-pandemic. We are honored to have employees like our Dietary Manager who’s been at the facility for 30-plus years and multiple other employees who are 15-plus years in. We believe they are the leading factor as to how we were able to jump back into the swing of things. Once the pandemic slowed down, we shut our Covid unit down, allowing visitors back in. We were able to get back to “basics” almost immediately with the knowledge, experience and mentorship of our long-term staff members.
After overcoming these challenges, we are proud to have admitted 178 residents into our facility in 2022. We are so grateful to be able to serve our community and assist those in need of short-term rehabilitation, long-term care, memory care and onsite dialysis. This number reflects the hard work and dedication our team members put in every day. Our building couldn’t operate without every one of them.
A New York Times article stated,
“The best facilities still have 100 percent occupancy and waiting lists — that’s how you know they’re good,” said Nicholas Castle, a health policy researcher at the University of Pittsburgh. Thank you to every single staff member at Avon Place for contributing to this huge accomplishment!
